Intimacy is a psychological concept used to describe the feelings garnered from the level of quality, frequency or exposure to a physical or emotional relationship with ones self and with everything else; places, things and people. The ideal of this concept is the highest quality, most constant and most fully exposed physical and emotional relationships with ones self, everyone else and everything. Most common usage is, intimacy between two people whom are in a committed sexual and emotional therefor intimate relationship and a hindrance to that relationship, fear of intimacy. It also describes relationships within families and with pets and within groups of people such as theater troupes and sports teams and within their audiences. Intimacy can be had with knowledge in general or within long term activities; careers such as lawyers and law, hobbies such as reading books, sensitivities such as spacial awareness, and the tools of any craft such as a plumber and wrench and the violinist and instrument. Intimacy is also used to describe a juxtaposition of itself as insult or slang, a social expectation or defense mechanism; a low quality or random frequency relationship that is combined with a more full exposure, either by restricting it to only physical or only emotional, or by exaggerating the physical and emotional combination of it. Psychological and sexual issues form with confusions betweenemotional intimacy and sexual intimacy.
